1) Tomorrow (Thursday) I'm playing @ Aqua Lounge (Phila) at "Paz y Placer," a benefit for a battered women's shelter, and I'm really excited to be involved. I'm sharing the tables with the crazy eclectic and inordinately funky DJ Statik from the Illvibe Collective, plus live percussionists! Definitely a treat, and for a *great* cause. 2) New dj99 set! "Irrational Exuberance" is a cheeky, playful romp through Brazilian classics to contemplative funk up to unreleased broken beat treats. Getting great response so far, so get your electrosamba on at http://www.beleza-music.org/trackssets/index.htm.
3) Oh boy oh boy, Beleza-Music.org has been completely revamped and relauched! Formerly the home of Broke & Beat Radio, the new site is a depot for original tracks, dj sets, profiles, features, and art from the world of broken beat, future syncopation, and the entire soulful diaspora.
Up now: Tracks by Edwin (Phila), T. S. Heritage (Miami), dj sets from 99, Sezy, Koji, (Phila) and Jojo Flores! (Montreal) Profiles of many of these artists plus multi-instrumentalist Joni Love, (NJ) Zen One Dance Collective, international producer Yellowtail (NYC), artist/stylist Emily Amarnick, and more. Also, mountains of photos reaching back into ancient history.
There's soooo much good stuff in the pipeline including a scene report from San Juan, Puerto Rico, an intimate conversation with the beautiful mind of Titonton Duvante, Brazilian festivities in Raleigh Durham, and tons of great music and info from all over the US and the world. I hope you'll take a dip into the wonderful talent that I feel so privileged to present to you.
