Beleza welcomes Chapel Hill's own Ben Bearden, aka DJ Silvaback. Originally from the deep South, Mobile, Alabama to be exact, Silvback got his first pair of tables n 2001.
In the summer of 2002, he made a pilgrimage to Frieburg Germany for Rainer Truby's famed Rootdown Party which clearly shaped his musical trajectory.
Silvaback developed the Broke on the Floor series to demonstrate to all the nay-sayers that Broken Beat shouldn't just be relegated to the downtempo rooms -- it can be as danceable as anything you can dish out in the main room, and not nearly as monotonous.
Silvaback has been preaching the Gospel of Broken Beat throughout North Carolina's Research Triangle for the past two years. Although the Triangle is not currently a hotbed of Broken Beat activity, Silvaback and a few others are looking to expand the audience in the area.
Ben is a contributor to the Jazz Anew night at Kings Barcade, the notorious FAME parties at Ringside in Durham, Spin at Café Cyclo. You can check out Silvaback Every Sunday night at the West End Wine Bar in Chapel Hill, or First Saturdays at Café Cyclo in Raleigh.
