GOING, GOING, GONE!
Thanks to all who have supported this project! There are only a few shirts left, and they are being taken to The Last HOPE conferece in NYC this weekend. Thus, the shopping cart is being closed down. If you're going to the conference, come visit the Philly crew in the vendor space, where The Hacktory will be doing some live printing with a really hilarious image. Thank you!

March, 2007: Back from Kenya, getting ready for South Carolina!
| Like Guru from Gang Starr said on the great album Jazzmatazz, "Never no time to play." In January, six Philadelphians traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to participate in an Indie Media Convergence and the World Social Forum. While we were there, we participated in independent journalism skill shares and helped some new friends in Nairobi and Maseno University get their community radio projects off the ground and on the air. We've unpacked, unwound, and debriefed, and hopefully soon we'll have some more stories to tell. In the meantime, here are some places you can read about what we and our friends in Kenya did together, and the work that is ongoing.
Next up on the project list is another barnraising-style community radio build with the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement in Greenville, SC. Preliminary info about this project is here!

August, 2006: Gone Barnraisin'!
Let's see...
It's been barely a month since a few of us were joking around about Senator Steven's famous tubes faux pas, and thought it would be funny to make a few joke shirts for ourselves and bring some to the HOPE conferece in NYC. In about 35 days, we learned to silk screen, ran some tests for ourselves, discovered that people actually liked them, launched a minor e-commerce monster, commissioned new original artwork, got introduced to the exciting world of wholesale apparel, and finally, discovered the joy of outsourcing labor to local indie businesses--shortly after discovering the horror of trying to heat-set huge numbers of orders with a regular iron. We definitely outgrew our little West Philadelphia cottage industry of screening shirts on the porch. We are still screening a few orders by hand, but moved mass printing over to the wonderful Philadelphia-based Outlaw Print Company. They did a great job, and as of now, we're almost all caught up. If you haven't received your shirt yet, it's on its way or you'll hear from us soon. We also ordered lots of organic, fair trade black shirts from HAE Now Organic Cotton Clothing, so if you ordered a black tee, it's possible yours will ship with extra SMUG. Thanks!!
